Drowning Love: The Knife That Dropped in Water

Drowning Love (溺れるナイフ) is a Japanese film directed by Yuki Yamato in 2016. Based on the hominymus text by George Asakura, the movie tells the story of Natsume Mochizuki, a teen model who moves to her parents town from Tokyo. There, she will meet Kochihiro (Koh) Hasegawa, son of one of the wealthiest families of the place and towards whom she will feel attracted. However, a painful event will change their relationship forever.

Despite having read several manga, I'm not used to watching this type of productions. The way in which Natsume's female condition represents a blessing, and a curse at the same time, is not something that we usually see in these Japanese works, but I sincerely appreciate it. Apart from that, I really liked the treatment given to teenage love that, far from being idealized, is portrayed as a complex matter and with a not always pleasing solution.

I also must highlight, although this a little bit more subjective matter, the direction photography and the narrative. Honestly, incredible. All in all, I really enjoyed the movie. I could have access to it through the film series La Estafa del Amor, in Cienteca Madrid. If you have the opportunity, please, go watch some movies, I strongly recommend it. They also have English subtitles do those of you who don't speak Spanish have no excuse now.

Punctuation: 8/10.
